Six Texas cities make list of friendliest U.S. cities. It must be the southern hospitality

Texans are known for tipping their hat to one another in greeting while delivering a hearty howdy, but is it the friendliest place in the country?

A new study from Preply lists six Texas cities as some of the friendliest in the country. The Lone Star State has the most cities represented on the list.

Austin took the top spot on the list after a survey of 1,200 people from across the country. A few of the factors examined for the study were friendly actions, affections towards pets and strangers and friendliness through words.

In total, 25 cities made the list and Texas was well represented.

What cities in Texas are friendliest?

The study ranked the friendly cities with a rating through 10:

  • No. 1 —- Austin at 7.45 score
  • No. 2 — San Antonio at 7.16 score
  • No. 5 — El Paso at 7.10 score
  • No. 7 — Fort Worth at 7.02 score
  • No. 11 — Dallas at 6.80 score
  • No. 12 — Houston at 6.77 score

Boston, Seattle and Philadelphia closed out the bottom three spots on the list.

How friendly is Fort Worth TX according to the study?

Along with being seven overall on the list, Fort Worth picked up a few other friendly accolades.

Cowtown ranked No. 8 on the list for the “most common friendliest actions in the country,” specifically with saying hello to those around them in public.

Fort Worth topped the list for “cities that show friendliness through words” — mainly for greeting a new neighbor and saying hello to those around them in public. The city also ranked No. 3 for the “listen to a stranger vent about their problems” category.

Fort Worth also made it on the list of “cities most likely to show friendliness through action.”

  • No. 3 — Holding the door open for someone
  • No. 5 — Holding an elevator for someone

  • No. 5. — Volunteering for community service
  • No. 5 — Offer to help a stranger carry something
