Body of Texas A&M student from Denton County found near a bridge overlook in Austin
A Texas A&M University student from Denton County who appears to have misled his relatives about his qualification for graduation this month was found dead Saturday in Austin.
The body of Tanner Hoang, 22, was discovered near the Pennybacker Bridge, which spans the Colorado River on Loop 360, according to a representative of Hoang’s family. His death was not criminal, the representative suggested.
“This is not the outcome that we have all been praying for, but on this Christmas Eve, Tanner is now in the arms of his Savior, King, Prince of Peace, Joy, and Healer,” the representative wrote in a Facebook group.
Hoang, who lived in Flower Mound before he went to college, was last seen on Dec. 16 at his apartment in College Station. His relatives were in town that day to attend Texas A&M’s graduation ceremony and alerted authorities after Hoang did not arrive for lunch.
The family then learned from the institution that Hoang did not qualify for graduation.
Hoang traveled west in his car and stopped for gas in Caldwell, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. The car traveled through Elgin on Highway 290.
The car was found on Thursday near a hiking trail leading to the Pennybacker Bridge overlook, the representative said.
