Cyber attack on MedStar ambulance service quarantined, disrupts computer-aided dispatch
A Thursday morning attack on MedStar’s computer network has left the ambulance service that operates in Fort Worth and other surrounding cities without computer-aided dispatch and patient care reporting systems, according to a news release.
There is no evidence at this time that any patient or 911 records were breached.
The company has maintained data on remove servers in redundant, hardened locations and is working to quarantine systems that were affected by the attack.
As a result, MedStar is doing manual and radio dispatching until it is confident the systems targeted are once again secure.
MedStar did not release any details on the type of attack or what risk there is to systems that were not affected before it was quarantined.
According to the release, the ambulance service is in contact with its 911 partners and will return to computer-aided dispatching soon.
MedStar operates ambulances in Fort Worth and 14 other Tarrant County cities including Lake Worth, Haltom City, Saginaw, Forest Hill, River Oaks, Haslet and Sansom Park.
