Twenty-five Grand Prairie residents have been displaced from their homes after a three-alarm fire at an apartment complex Wednesday night, officials said.

Firefighters found heavy fire coming from the second floor of an apartment building in the 1900 block of Houston Street shortly before 9 p.m., according to a news release.

Seventeen apartment units were affected before the fire was declared under control around 9:30 p.m., according to the release. No injuries were reported, and the American Red Cross responded to help those affected by the fire.

Resident Mark Blackwell told Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV that he was sitting in his living room when he smelled smoke. He rushed to evacuate his son and daughter and by the time they made it safely across the street the roof was on fire.

According to WFAA, the battalion chief said the fact there weren’t any injuries is a miracle.

The cause of the blaze is still being investigated, according to a tweet by fire officials.
