Northlake police officers injured in crash with 18-wheeler on I-35W near Roanoke
Two Northlake police officers were injured in a crash where an 18-wheeler split open on Interstate 35W near Texas Motor Speedway and Roanoke, officials said.
The accident occurred around 9 a.m., the Town of Northlake posted on Facebook.
“Two of our Northlake officers were inside their separate police vehicles when they were struck by a semi-tractor trailer. The two officers were responding to an earlier accident when the semi-tractor trailer jack-knifed,” the town said in the social media post.
One officer, inside his vehicle, ended up pinned under the trailer.
“He was responsive and was transported to a local hospital. Another officer was also transported with minor injuries,” the town said in its statement.
In an update Thursday afternoon, the town said, “Both officers are now stable. One officer will remain in the hospital for observation, the other will be released later today.”
A total of four people were injured in the crash, a MedStar spokesperson said. Beside one officer who had more serious injuries, the other three individuals suffered minor injuries.
The interstate’s southbound lanes remained closed as the investigation continued.
“Please keep our Northlake officers and their families in your thoughts and prayers,” the town said. “We will continue to keep you updated as more information becomes available.”
