Here’s how to recycle your Christmas tree in the Fort Worth area
After you’ve decked the halls, you can give your Christmas tree a second life.
Instead of burning your tree or sending it to a landfill, many Tarrant County cities allow residents to recycle their live trees for mulch. Flocked trees are also accepted in some cities, including Fort Worth and Arlington.
Before pickup or dropoff, take your tree off its stand and remove any nails, plastic bags, wrappings and decorations including ornaments, tinsel and lights.
Find your city below to see what options you have for sustainably disposing of your tree.
Fort Worth
You can recycle your tree in Fort Worth by leaving it on your curb for pickup or dropping it off at a station.
Place your tree on the curb on your weekly brush pickup day. If your tree is taller than eight feet, cut it in half. Check the pickup calender so you know when to set your tree out.
You can also drop off trees at one of the city’s four drop-off stations:
- Brennan Drop-off Station, 2400 Brennan Avenue
- Southeast Drop-off Station, 5150 Martin Luther King Freeway
- Old Hemphill Road Drop-off Station, 6260 Old Hemphill Road
- Hillshire Drop-off Stations, 301 Hillshire Drive
The stations are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and they’re closed on Christmas and New Year’s.
Arlington
Drop off your tree between Dec. 27 and Jan. 12 at either of these locations:
Arlington Landfill, 800 Mosier Valley Road, open from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday
Calloway’s Nursery, 4940 South Cooper Street, open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily
Pick up free mulch from recycled Christmas trees at the landfill in the spring.
North Richland Hills
Drop off your tree from Dec. 26 through Jan. 2 at one of two locations:
Green Valley Park, 7701 Smithfield Road
Dan Echols Center, 6801 Glenview Drive
Or, place your tree curbside by 7 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 8, or Wednesday, Jan. 12. If your tree is taller than 5 feet, cut it in half.
Mulch from the recycled trees will be available for you to pick up at the two drop-off locations between Jan. 5 and 9. Bring a container and shovel to load the mulch.
Euless
To recycle your Christmas tree, drop off your tree at Midway Park from Dec. 26 to Jan. 8. The city will mulch your tree and use it to maintain parks and medians.
And then you can attend the city’s Christmas tree recycling event on Saturday, Jan. 8, with a tree mulching demonstration from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and free hot dogs and drinks. Bring a bag to fill with mulch for your garden.
Keller
Keller residents can place their trees curbside on their second weekly collection day with other bulk trash, but there won’t be citywide recycling this year. If it’s 10 feet or larger, cut it in half. Wrapping with rope or twine is recommended. Find your schedule at communitywastedisposal.com.
Hurst
The city isn’t providing Christmas tree recycling this year, but you can still dispose of it on your regular yard waste collection day. If it’s taller than four feet or greater than 50 pounds, trim it down into sections and placed them into bags.
Bedford
While a citywide recycling initiative has not been announced, you can call 817-317-2000 to schedule a brush pickup.
