Woman dies on South Loop 288 in Denton, police say; investigation underway into death
A woman died in the middle of a Denton highway early Tuesday morning despite the life-saving efforts of first responders and good Samaritans who rushed to help her, police said.
Investigators are still trying to determine how the woman wound up in the road, and what led to her death.
Responding to a question about her injuries, a Denton police spokesperson said in an email, “The victim was covered in blood. We don’t have specifics on injuries beyond that at this time.”
Her identity isn’t known at this time, police said in a news release Tuesday morning.
Multiple people called 911 after 3:30 a.m. to report seeing an unconscious woman in the 1800 block of Loop 288, in the southbound lanes, police said. Denton officers and firefighters quickly responded to the location, and witnesses also sprung into action. They tried to revive her but couldn’t, police said.
She was pronounced dead.
Officers stayed on the scene for several hours on Tuesday morning as all lanes of Loop 288 were closed, according to the news release.
