Resident killed when vehicle crashes into apartment bedroom in east Fort Worth
A woman was killed and a man was injured when a sport utility vehicle crashed into an apartment building on Post Oak Boulevard on Monday morning, authorities said.
A 64-year-old woman who lived in one of the apartments was killed, according to Fort Worth Fire Department Battalion Chief James McAmis. She was in bed when the car crashed into her apartment.
“From what we can tell from the incident, she didn’t have any warning,” McAmis said.
The victim has been identified as Malinda Sue Goulett, who lived in the apartment where she was killed, according to officials with the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. A ruling on her death is pending an autopsy.
Goulett’s 8-year-old grandson also was in the apartment at the time of the crash, but he was not hurt.
“The grandson was not in the bedroom,” police spokesman Brad Perez said on Monday afternoon.
The driver of the car was treated at the scene for minor injuries. His name and age have not been released.
The crash was reported shortly before 10:30 a.m. at the Reserve at Centreport apartments in the 3700 block of Post Oak Boulevard, in the Euless area.
Fort Worth police are investigating the cause of the crash, and no charges had been filed Monday. Perez said the preliminary investigation indicates the driver was backing up when he ran over curb and into the woman’s bedroom.
Fort Worth police also are investigating a report from witnesses that the incident began as a hit-and-run. Witnesses reported to police the SUV went into reverse after it was hit by another vehicle.
Firefighters with the Fort Worth Fire Department and the Euless Fire Department also responded to the scene. Firefighters said the building appeared to be stable.
Crews were scheduled to spend most of Monday getting the SUV out of the apartment building.
