College student electrocuted while roof jumping, police say

A 20-year-old college student died on Sunday while roof jumping in downtown Waxahachie.

Police say that Jedidiah Brookbank hit a power line and was electrocuted.

Brookbank was a student at Southwestern Assemblies of God University. The university released a statement on Tuesday that said, “Jedidiah came to Southwestern Assemblies of God University from Kansas City and was a resident in Bridges Hall. He had just completed his Junior year and was a Business Management major.”

“He brightened up any room he entered with his laugh, smile, amazing personality, and ability to make anyone feel instantly welcomed and valued,” his sister Chelsea Brookbank said in the university’s statement.

Waxahachie Fire Rescue and the Waxahachie Police Department were sent to the 100 block of North Rogers Street just before 10:30 p.m. Sunday. Jedidiah Brookbank was found on the roof of a business.

On Facebook, Brookbank’s father, Brian, wrote: “Jed and a friend were jumping building to building and Jed hit a power line. It was a great way to go for a young man, albeit a little foolish. Though shattered, we are well, looking with joy and expectancy to joining Jed in the presence of the Lord.”
