A bus crash on Interstate 30 in Arlington killed one person in an SUV early Sunday morning, while 16 bus passengers were taken to the hospital, police said.

Arlington officers responded to a single-car crash involving the SUV at 5:27 a.m. Sunday on I-30 beneath the Collins Street bridge. A 911 caller reported that the SUV was traveling westbound and “exhibiting erratic driving behavior and swerving,” police said.

The SUV struck the concrete divider that separates the HOV lane from the main lanes of the highway.

Officers were at the scene of the wreck when a Greyhound bus carrying about 40 people struck the disabled SUV. One person in the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. The other person in the SUV was flown to a local hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The 16 injured bus passengers were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

The westbound lanes of I-30 were shut down while police investigated the crash. The highway re-opened about 1:30 p.m.
