76-year-old pedestrian dies in Arlington hospital days after being hit by truck
A 76-year-old man has died in an Arlington hospital after he was hit by a vehicle while trying to cross a street on Oct. 31, officials say.
Joseph Osborn was critically injured in the accident and died in the intensive care unit at Medical City Arlington hospital Wednesday afternoon, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Officers were called to the 400 block of West Randol Mill Road about 7:30 a.m. Oct. 31 for a reported collision. They found Osborn lying in the roadway. Investigators determined he’d been trying to cross Randol Mill Road and was hit by a construction truck, police said.
The truck’s driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Police said they don’t think speed was a factor in the crash. Osborn wasn’t using a crosswalk, and video evidence showed it was still dark when the accident occurred. The driver didn’t see the 76-year-old in time to stop, police said.
No criminal charges have been filed against the driver, according to police.
The Arlington Police Department reminds pedestrians to always use designated crosswalks or traffic lights when crossing roadways, especially when visibility is low.
