Suspect in 2016 murder in Arlington arrested in California, police say
Authorities have arrested a suspect in a murder from nearly nine years ago, officials with the Arlington Police Department said Thursday.
Detectives originally obtained the murder warrant for 31-year-old Francisco Rodriguez in May 2016, police said.
Rodriguez was arrested on another charge in Escondido, California earlier this week, according to a statement. His Arlington warrant was confirmed upon his arrest.
Rodriguez is accused of fatally shooting 25-year-old Hugo Hernandez-Castrejon on May 1, 2016 at a house party in the 3100 block of Bahar Drive in Arlington, police said.
Witnesses told police that a handgun had been on a table in the home’s backyard when, at some point, Rodriguez began to handle the weapon, according to the statement.
Shortly after, a shot was fired and Hernandez-Castrejon was struck in the head, police said. He was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead.
Rodriguez is being held in the San Diego County Jail and awaiting extradition to Tarrant County.
