Power Allen, 18, was killed in a shooting at an Arlington apartment complex on Saturday morning, March 29, and an 18-year-old suspect was arrested, police said.

An 18-year-old man was killed in a shooting at an Arlington apartment complex early Saturday and an 18-year-old suspect was arrested, police said.

Officers responded to the shooting at the complex in the 800 block of West Mitchell Street at about 6:45 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, according to a news release.

They found 18-year-old Power Allen lying unresponsive inside an apartment with a gunshot wound. Allen was taken to Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Two women were also in the apartment where the victim was found. The women were not injured in the shooting, but one of them was pistol-whipped by the suspect, according to the release.

Homicide investigators found that an ex-boyfriend of one of the women came to the apartment and got into an argument with the three people present, police said.

The ex-boyfriend was identified as 18-year-old Teagan Meza.

During the argument, Meza pulled out a handgun, and Allen and the two women tried to close the front door on him, police said.

As that was happening, Meza pistol-whipped one of the women and fired a shot into the apartment, shooting Allen, police said.

Before the argument, Meza saw his ex-girlfriend in the apartment complex’s parking lot and pointed the gun at her and fired a shot into the air, according to the release.

Police said they arrested Meza without incident at the home of a family member. He was booked at the Arlington City Jail and then moved to the Tarrant County Jail. He is being held on $800,000 bond and faces charges of murder and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to jail records.
