Arlington restaurant temporarily closed after rats, roaches found during health inspection
One Arlington restaurant was temporarily closed for serious health violations, and three others received low scores during the Jan. 19 to Feb. 8 health inspections, according to data from the city compiled by the Star-Telegram.
Lan Song Xanh at 2535 E. Arkansas Lane scored 71 on Jan. 24. The restaurant was required to close after the inspector found an infestation of rats and roaches, according to City of Arlington Health Services. A condom was also found on a food contact surface.
The restaurant was thoroughly cleaned and treated for pests and rodents, according to the city. Lang Song Xanh was allowed to reopen Jan. 25, and a follow-up inspection will be conducted in the next few weeks.
Arlington restaurants are scored on a 100-point system, with 100 being a perfect score. Restaurants and other places that serve food that score 75 or less require a follow-up inspection, and 70 is considered extremely poor.
Taqueria La Nueva Mexicana at 3316 Merilee Drive scored 73 on Jan. 23. Some foods weren’t stored at a safe temperature, according to the city, and food and grease had built up under the equipment. The restaurant’s health permit had expired, and so had the food manager and food handler certifications.
The restaurant scored 89 on the Jan. 27 follow-up inspection.
Charley’s Grilled Subs, located at 3811 S. Cooper St. inside The Parks Mall, scored 75 on Feb. 5. A reach-in cooler wasn’t cooling properly, and the freezer gasket had torn seals, the city said. A live cockroach was found at the restaurant, and the food handler training certification had expired.
Rubi’s Restaurant at 941 W. Pioneer Parkway scored 75 on Jan. 30. Beverages were being cooled at room temperature, and the salsa was being stored at an unsafe temperature. Some knives and utensils were dirty, the city said. The restaurant scored 78 on the Feb. 5 follow-up inspection.
A total of 268 food establishments were inspected from Jan. 19 through Feb. 8. Fifteen of them, including four schools, received a perfect score of 100.
