89-year-old cyclist dies in collision with pickup truck in Arlington, authorities say
An 89-year-old man riding an electric bicycle died on Sunday in a collision with a pickup truck in Arlington, police said.
Byron Lightbody died at Medical City Arlington hospital about noon, a half-hour after the collision in the 6700 block of New York Avenue, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. His death was caused by blunt force injuries.
Lightbody entered the road and was cycling from east to west when he collided with a 2013 Chevrolet Avalanche whose driver was southbound on New York Avenue, Arlington police said.
The pickup truck’s driver immediately stopped and called 911, police said. Police did not say whether they alleged the driver committed an offense in connection with the wreck.
Lightbody lived in Arlington, the medical examiner’s office said.
