When the gunfire ended late Wednesday at the Handley Oaks Apartments, four people who had been shot were on the ground in three corners of the square courtyard at the east Fort Worth building.

Beyond tearing into the bodies, rounds pierced brick walls, window glass, a television and a china closet.

A flare of anger earlier in the night erupted again about 11:30 p.m. and became, “an all-out war between these guys,” said building resident Lawrence White, 54. Apartment management had, in the hours after the violence, used soap and water to wash away blood drippings on the sidewalk outside his unit.

Multiple people fired upon each other, White said Thursday, recalling about 15 shots.

Jerron Albritton, 38, was shot in the head and back and died at the scene in the 2100 block of Handley Drive, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. Two victims were taken to a hospital in critical condition, a MedStar spokesperson said. The fourth victim was treated at the scene.

Albritton lived in an apartment in the building, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Fort Worth police said the other victims are adults but declined to say whether they are men or women.

Police did not announce an arrest. A Homicide Unit investigation is underway.
