Three Arlington kitchens close after health inspectors find serious code violations

Three Arlington eateries closed because of health code violations discovered in inspections between July 5 and July 9, according to data collected by the city and compiled by the Star-Telegram.

Abu Omar Halal at 2300 W. Division St., BFF Asian Grill and Sports Bar at 2150 E. Lamar Blvd. and Children’s Courtyard at 1115 W. Lamar Blvd. all closed because of health code violations.

It’s the second week in a row the West Lamar location of Children’s Courtyard has been closed due to health code violations, according to the inspection reports. In both weeks’ inspections, the child care center’s kitchen was listed as having received a perfect score but was noted as being closed for corrective action.

A spokeswoman for the city said inspectors received a complaint June 29 of roaches and rodents infesting the business. Inspectors were told the business was working with pest control to correct the problem, but inspectors found the infestation significant enough to require the business to close for 48 hours to correct.

In a follow-up inspection on July 2, inspectors found “conditions had continued to deteriorate,” forcing the city to order the business remain closed, the spokeswoman said. The business was ordered to bring pest control back and work on repairs and cleaning for the building. That work was still underway when inspectors returned July 5, and the business reopened July 6.

Representatives from Children’s Courtyard parent company Learning Care Group did not respond to request for comment.

Abu Omar Halal was closed two days in a row after receiving a score of 61 on July 7, then improving to a 75 on July 8.

In Arlington inspections, restaurants are judged on a scale of zero to 100, with 100 being a perfect score. Violations, which are not routinely noted in inspection results released publicly, result in deductions from the overall score.

BFF Asian Grill also closed both of those days, with its July 7 score at 74 and its July 8 score recorded as a 100 but with a note that the restaurant had to close for corrective action again that day.

Two places that serve food received perfect scores in Arlington, excluding BFF Asian Grill and Children’s Courtyard’s perfect scores with notes that they had to close for corrective action.

Mission Arlington and the Arlington school district’s Athletic Centermission Arlington both received perfect scores.

Here are the inspection scores and violations for restaurants within the city limits of Arlington for the week of July 5th - 9th, 2021. A score of 100 is a perfect score and 70 is considered to be extremely poor. Reinspections will be conducted for restaurants that score 75 or less. If serious health and sanitation violations are considered an imminent health hazard, the restaurant will be closed until the identified health hazard has been mitigated.
