Sexual assault suspect recorded September 2019 attack at Arlington park, police say

A man wanted in a September 2019 sexual assault of a woman at an Arlington park where he recorded the attack has been identified and is in custody, Arlington police said Monday.

Jessie D. Ray had been arrested in May by Tyler police during a narcotics investigation, and a search of his red iPhone revealed video of a sexual assault, Arlington police said.

Tyler police entered specific information seen in the video into a violent criminal apprehension program database, and they received a match from the Arlington case.

Investigators determined the video depicted the September 2019 crime, which the suspect had recorded with his red iPhone.

Ray was in the Smith County Jail in Tyler awaiting his return to Tarrant County.

Ray faces a charge of aggravated sexual assault.

The attack was reported at 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 21, 2019, in the Crystal Canyon Natural Area in the 1000 block of Brown Boulevard in Arlington.

A woman reported she was approached from behind by a man with a handgun who raped her.

She had been on one of the trails at the park, Arlington police said.

The victim told Arlington police the man had a goatee and mole on his nose. He also had a tattoo on top of his right hand that extended beyond his wrist.

A few days later Arlington police released a composite drawing of the suspect.
