14-year-old girl dies after being shot at Arlington apartment complex, police say

A 14-year-old girl who was shot in the head by a man at an Arlington apartment complex died Wednesday and the suspect faces murder charges, according to an Arlington police press release.

Police identified the girl as Dorothy Brown. Officers arrested the suspect, 18-year-old Javien Brown, on May 30. After learning of the victim’s death, officers will upgrade charges from aggravated assault to murder. The two are not related, police said.

Officers responded to the shooting call at about 1:45 a.m. on May 27 in the 2500 block of Forest Point Drive in Arlington.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, witnesses told police that Dorothy Brown and Javien Brown were arguing back and forth, with the suspect saying “you better shut up before I pull this fire out.”

At some point, Javien Brown shot Dorothy Brown in the head. First responders found her in the apartment complex parking lot and she was flown to a local hospital.

Javien Brown is being held at Tarrant County Jail, according to jail records. His bond is set at $50,000.
