Driver killed in Arlington wreck; investigators believe speed may have been a factor

A motorist was killed early Monday in a single-vehicle wreck on Arkansas Lane in Arlington, Arlington police said.

No other injuries were reported in the accident, which occurred in the 1900 block of Arkansas Lane.

Arlington police responded to the crash shortly before 2:30 a.m.

Traffic investigators have determined that a vehicle was traveling eastbound on the street when it crossed the median and struck a light pole and a tree.

The driver died at the scene.

The vehicle also crashed into a utility line, causing a natural gas leak. Arlington police shut down Arkansas Lane for several hours while crews repaired the damage.

Authorities are still investigating the wreck, but they believe the motorist may have lost control because he was driving at a high rate of speed.

The victim was Carlos Porras, 30, of Arlington, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office website.
