This Arlington dog park is getting a makeover that even the humans will enjoy
Dogs also like to socialize in the nicest places.
Beginning this month, the Tails N Trails Dog Park in southeast Arlington will undergo a renovation that will be complete by early summer. Highlights will include an additional fenced-in play area and other improvements for furry canines — and even their humans — to enjoy.
Tails N Trails is one of two public dog parks in Arlington and already offers a wide range of activities. Soon, along with a variety of other renovations, some additional activity features will be added.
The Arlington City Council approved funding to build an additional dog paddock at the 5.7-acre park, located at 950 SE Green Oaks Boulevard near Arlington Animal Services and the Southeast Branch Library.
“The dog park popularity and its recreational usage has greatly increased over the last few years, thus increasing the need for an additional paddock (fenced-off leash area),” said Mitali Mandlekar, Park Project Manager and landscape architect with Arlington Parks and Recreation Department.
Other planned enhancements include new fencing, stormwater improvements, plumbing, irrigation, landscaping and pet waste stations.
Also, a sidewalk will link the new paddock to the Arlington Animal Services Center.
Wooded area improvements will provide additional off-leash space, in conjunction with the new dog paddock area.
“This is a heavily used dog park, providing great opportunities for recreation,” Mandlekar said.
In the meantime, Tails N Trails Dog Park isn’t the only option for off-leash fun in the city. The Rush Creek Dog Park in West Arlington is located at 1900 Valleywood Drive off West Pioneer Parkway.
