If you get hurt, this newly designated DFW trauma center may be the closest one to you

If someone gets seriously injured between Fort Worth and Dallas, they now have another place to go.

Medical City Arlington has now been designated as a Level II Trauma Center by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

It is the only hospital in Arlington to obtain that classification, which is the second-highest trauma level available.

“Achieving this advanced trauma designation reinforces our commitment to excellence in trauma and emergency services for Arlington and the surrounding region,” Medical City Arlington CEO Keith Zimmerman said. “We have been functioning at this higher level for more than a year and are pleased to receive official recognition of the care we provide and the investment we have made in our community.”

There are 18 Level 1 trauma centers in Texas, including John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Baylor Medical University Medical Center of Dallas, Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, Methodist Dallas Medical Center, Medical City Plano.

There are 25 Level II trauma center in Texas, including Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth, Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas Health Prebyterian Hospital Dallas, Texas Health Presbyterian Plano and Medical City Denton. Baylor Scott&White Medical Center - Grapevine became a Level II trauma center over a year ago.

To become a Level II trauma center, a hospital must commit to providing comprehensive regional care for every aspect of injury, including 24-hour coverage by general surgeons, as well as orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, anesthesiology, radiology and critical care. Continuing education, injury and trauma prevention programs for staff and the community and a comprehensive quality assessment program must also be offered.

As a Level II Trauma Center, Medical City Arlington also has dedicated trauma resuscitation rooms in the 56-bed emergency department and trauma operating rooms available 24 hour a day.

The 432-bed hospital is at 3301 Matlock Road and serves Arlington, Grand Prairie and Mansfield.
