Arlington fire started as a domestic dispute. Then someone grabbed a can of gasoline.

A domestic dispute at an east Arlington apartment complex erupted into flames when someone got a can of gasoline and set a unit on fire.

Four people, including the suspect who started the fire, have been hospitalized.

The suspect, a 25-year-old man who sustained serious burns, was flown to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, said Sgt. VaNessa Harrison, an Arlington police spokeswoman. Police have not the suspect’s name. Criminal charges are pending.

Two women, ages 25 and 22, and a 20-year-old man who all lived in the apartment were transported to Medical City Arlington.

The fire started about 6:30 a.m. at the Runningbrook Apartments at 1519 Running Brook Drive.

“The incident started as a domestic call,” Harrison said. “The suspect left the location and returned with gasoline. A fire was set and all of the occupants in the apartment were hospitalized, including the suspect. Investigators are still trying to determine the details that led up to the fire being set.”

Arlington police were seen removing firearms from the apartment and investigators were still trying to determine what caused the dispute.

“I was told it had been ongoing,” Harrison said. “They had been arguing the previous day.”

The two-alarm fire damaged eight units and 37 people were displaced.

The Red Cross is providing assistance to those who were displaced.
