Which Halloween outfits are most popular in Fort Worth? Here’s what costume shops said
Fort Worth residents are flocking to some of the biggest movies of the year for Halloween costume inspiration, including “Top Gun: Maverick”.
Many are getting in the spooky spirit inside Fort Worth’s many haunted house offerings for a good scare. The city also has several bars taking advantage of the spooky holiday with drink specials.
But what to wear? Who will they be this halloween? Here are some of the most popular this year according to local costume and party stores:
Top Gun: Maverick — One of the most popular Halloween costumes this year is the flight suit from “Top Gun: Maverick,” said a sales associate at Magic Etc. Fort Worth Costume.
No surprise there. The sequel to the 1986 box office blockbuster pulled in $1.4 billion in ticket sales worldwide. The sequel featuring Tom Cruise continues the adventures of Pete “Maverick” Mitchell as a Navy aviator, which Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth had a part in.
1970s-era Las Vegas Elvis jumpsuit — Another popular costume this year is Elvis Presley, which makes sense since the Austin Butler movie was huge over the summer, said Stephanie Griggs a costume coordinator at Harris Costumes.
Elvis is typically a go-to costume for people every Halloween, but this year stands out, Griggs said. While Elvis had many costumes and wardrobes over his career, the 1970s-era Las Vegas jumpsuit Elvis is the big ticket item this year.
Disney princesses, family-friendly characters — As for children’s costumes, anything related to Disney princesses are flying off the shelves. Also, anything Marvel related has been a top seller this year, said Crystal Castro a manager at the Overton Park Party City. Family costumes are huge too, with Disney’s “The Incredibles” being at the top of the heap with its red and black costumes.
“Michael Myers” Horror film character — Horror movies and the larger-than-life villains that have been terrorizing film goers for decades are also making it into costume ideas. This year is no different with the latest film in the “Michael Myers” saga “Halloween Ends” hitting movie theaters just a couple weeks ago, inspiring many to pickup his costume, Castro said.
To be fair, the white mask and jumpsuit costume has been a popular pick since the original movie came out in 1978. Another popular horror movie costume this year is “Freddy Krueger” from the “A Nightmare on Elm Street” series.
Other popular costumes — The Fort Worth shop has seen this Halloween season, include Fred and Wilma Flinstone, Cleopatra, a Roman soldier and the Mad Hatter from “Alice in Wonderland.” Dorothy, Glinda, the Tin Man and even Toto, all from “The Wizard of Oz” are also popular, Griggs said.
Halloween is just five days away on Oct. 31.
