Tarrant County reports 418 new COVID cases Saturday as hospitalizations remain high

Tarrant County reported 418 new coronavirus cases on Saturday as the rate of hospitalizations for COVID patients remains at one of its highest levels since late August.

There were no new deaths reported on Saturday.

The new cases announced on Saturday bring the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 51,499, according to data from the Tarrant County Public Health Department. The county crossed the 51,000 case threshold on Friday with 352 new cases.

Saturday is the fifth straight day in which Tarrant County has reported more than 300 cases. It was the first day since Monday where there were no new reported deaths.

A total of 670 Tarrant County residents have died of the coronavirus, according to the data. There have been an estimated 44,590 people who have recovered from the virus.

As of Saturday, the data shows, there were 345 confirmed COVID-19-occupied hospital beds in Tarrant County out of 3,836 total beds. That means 9 percent of all beds are taken by coronavirus patients, the highest rate since Aug. 25.

The county hit a high of 20 percent on July 23.

Coronavirus patients age 65 or older have had the highest risk of dying in Tarrant County, making up only about 10 percent of total cases but 71 percent of deaths, according to the data.

Through Oct. 3, the data shows Fort Worth and Arlington have had the most COVID deaths, with several cities behind them:
