Dallas judge warns it could be spring before COVID weakens if spike follows Labor Day

Dallas County reported 398 coronavirus cases and one death on Saturday.

Of Saturday’s cases, 195 are previously unreported cases from earlier in the pandemic, including 151 from August and 44 from earlier in September.

The latest death is a Lancaster man in his 80s who did not have underlying health conditions.

Dallas County has confirmed 73,453 COVID-19 cases, including 944 deaths. The county does not report recoveries.

The county also reports 3,046 probable COVID cases and 10 probable deaths.

The county reports 317 children ages of 5 and 17 were diagnosed with COVID-19 between Aug. 15-28. About 43% of these cases were children 14 to 17 years old.

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins urged residents to adhere to social distancing guidelines throughout the Labor Day weekend.

“We cannot see a big bump in cases like we saw 10 days after Easter/Passover and 10 days of Memorial Day,” Jenkins said in a release and on social media. “Should we see an increase from this weekend, it could be the spring before we can get those numbers back down.”
