Dallas County reports nearly 400 children contracted COVID-19 last week

Dallas County officials report that 393 children ages 5 to 18 were diagnosed with COVID-19 between Aug. 17-21.

Half of those kids are enrolled in Dallas ISD schools, according to the county. Dallas ISD has suspended all in-person education until at least Oct. 8.

The county reported three coronavirus deaths and 276 cases, including 18 unreported cases from June, on Friday.

The deaths include a man and a woman in their 70s from Irving and a Dallas woman in her 60s.

Dallas County has confirmed 70,376 COVID-19 cases and 898 deaths. Officials aren’t reporting recoveries.

Officials discovered a glitch in the Texas’ Department of State Health Services data system three weeks ago and have been adding unreported cases since.

New cases have trended down the past two weeks, including four of the lowest daily totals in August over the past five days.
