Dallas County reports record-high daily cases as week becomes deadliest of pandemic

Public health authorities in Dallas County on Saturday reported a daily record-high 1,267 new coronavirus cases.

The county’s Health and Human Services department also reported 18 new COVID-19 deaths.

The department reported the dead were a man in his 30s, a man in his 40s, two men in their 50s, five men in their 60s, six people in their 70s, two people in their 80s and a woman in her 90s.

The third full week of July was the deadliest week of the pandemic in Dallas County.

“I know today’s numbers are disappointing but if we continue to do what science tells us is necessary to keep ourselves safe, we’ll see benefits,” Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins wrote in a statement.

The county would see improvement if people wear masks outside their homes and avoid unnecessary trips and establishments where a mask cannot always be worn, Jenkins wrote.

In total, there have been 46,013 cases in Dallas County, including 604 deaths.
