At end of deadliest week in Dallas County, officials report nine more COVID-19 deaths
Authorities on Saturday reported the novel coronavirus deaths in Dallas County of nine people and added them to the pandemic’s toll during the deadliest week in the county.
Seventy-four deaths were reported in the second full week in July. In the week before, 54 people died, the Dallas County Health and Human Services office said.
Public health authorities also reported 1,031 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday. In total, there have been 40,222 cases, including 523 deaths.
In the week that ended Saturday, the average daily number of new cases in Dallas County decreased by 36 to 1,085. In the week before, there was a record high 1,121 average daily cases.
Coronavirus hospitalizations, emergency room visits and intensive case unit admissions were at near-record levels in the week that ended Saturday, Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said.
The deaths reported on Saturday were of a man in his 30s, a man in his 50s, a man in his 60s, four people in their 70s, a man in his 80s and a woman in her 90s.
