Tarrant County reports 288 more coronavirus cases, 5 deaths on Saturday

Tarrant County officials reported 288 more coronavirus cases and five deaths on Saturday, boosting the total number of cases since the pandemic began above 21,000 and deaths above 290.

Four people from Fort Worth died — a woman in her 70s, woman in her 50s, man in his 70s and man in his 90s — as well as a man in his 20s from Arlington, officials said in a news release. All had underlying conditions.

There have been 21,195 cases and 293 deaths across Tarrant County, officials said. A total of 10,382 people have recovered from the virus.

The new cases reported on Saturday represent a decrease from the past several days, after officials announced 562 cases on Friday, 474 cases on Thursday and a record 857 cases on Wednesday. Officials say community spread continues to be substantial, however.

More people —161 — have died from the coronavirus in Fort Worth than anywhere else in Tarrant County, according to data from the public health department. In Arlington, 48 people have died, the second highest total.

Cases have been surging across Texas over the past week, with a record 10,791 new cases reported on Wednesday and a record 129 deaths on Friday.
