Dallas County reports 1,114 new coronavirus cases, six new deaths

Coming off its deadliest week since the coronavirus began, Dallas County reported 1,114 new coronavirus cases and six deaths on Monday.

Monday marked the 11th consecutive day of more than 1,000. Last week, the county saw 54 deaths and 1,121 average daily cases. Saturday closed out the deadliest week in the county since the pandemic began.

The county has a total of 34, 914 cases and 457 deaths, according to a county press release. The county has the second-highest number of cases in the state.

The six new deaths reported include a man in his 50s from Dallas, two men in their 60s from Dallas, a man in his 70s from Dallas, a man in his 70s from a DeSoto long-term care facility and a woman in her 90s from a Mesquite, according to Dallas County officials.

Of the 457 deaths, about a third are associated with long-term care facilities. Half of new cases reported since June 1 are being diagnosed in young adults between 18 to 39 years old, officials said. Many of these cases have been connected to large gatherings, which includes house parties.
