Dallas County reports more than 1,000 cases to end deadliest week of coronavirus so far

Dallas County reported 1,101 additional coronavirus cases Saturday and four deaths, bringing to a close the deadliest week the county has seen since the pandemic began.

The county saw 54 deaths and 1,121 average daily cases this week, Judge Clay Jenkins tweeted.

Saturday was the ninth day in a row the county reported more than 1,000 additional cases.

The deaths reported Saturday included a man in his 50s from Carrollton, a woman in her 70s from Dallas, a woman in her 70s from Mesquite and a woman in her 90s from Richardson, according to Dallas County officials.

With Saturday’s numbers, Dallas County now has had 32,626 cases of coronavirus and 449 deaths.

“Have a safe and enjoyable weekend,” Jenkins said in a statement. “We will get through this together, but it takes all of making good choices and looking out for each other.”

Jenkins also encouraged people to continue social distancing, wearing a mask and avoiding indoor activities with others.

An increasing proportion of COVID-19 cases in Dallas County have been seen in young people ages 18 to 39, and an increasing number of cases are being associated with large gatherings such as house parties, the press release from Dallas County said.
