Tarrant County COVID hospitalizations hit new high as cases pass 13,000; 2 more deaths
Tarrant County reported 473 new coronavirus cases and two more deaths on Thursday.
The latest deaths include an Arlington woman in her 80s and a Fort Worth woman in her 70s. Both had underlying health conditions.
Tarrant County has confirmed a total of 13,423 COVID-19 cases, including 233 deaths and at least 5,517 recoveries.
Of the total 233 pandemic-related deaths in the county, 130 have been in Fort Worth and 35 have been in Arlington. The third-hardest hit city in the county is Keller with 17 deaths.
Hospitalizations for COVID-19 are at an all-time high, taking up 9% of all available beds in the county. At the start of June it was about 3%. Of all of the patients hospitalized, according to the latest data available from the county, about 14% have confirmed cases of COVID-19. That, too, is an all-time high. That number was 5% at the start of June.
According to county data which tracks the day a COVID-19 case is reported, the county has reported at least 299 new cases each of the past nine days.
The county had reported more than 300 cases in a day just once — 481 on May 9 when an outbreak at Fort Worth’s Federal Medical Center prison was added — until reporting 304 on June 11.
The county reported a record 606 cases on Wednesday.
