Tarrant County passes 11,000 coronavirus cases with 377 new cases Saturday

Tarrant County passed 11,000 coronavirus cases on Saturday with the addition of 377 new cases.

Officials also reported two more deaths, of a Haltom City man in his 30s and a Saginaw man in his 50s. It’s not known if either had underlying conditions, officials said in a news release on Saturday.

That brings the total number of deaths in the county from COVID-19 to 224.

Tarrant County has been dealing with a recent rise in cases, averaging 388 new cases daily between Monday and Friday this past week. That represents an increase of 129 cases a day from the previous five days.

On Thursday, Tarrant County reported 517 new cases, a single-day high. That was the same day Texas hit a record increase in new cases and hospitalizations.

In response to surging coronavirus numbers, Gov. Greg Abbott on Friday issued an executive order demanding bars close again and restaurants reduce capacity to 50 percent.

There are 405 confirmed COVID-19-occupied beds in Tarrant County hospitals, according to data from the public health department. There are 1,730 available beds and 610 available ventilators.
