Dallas County passes 17,000 coronavirus cases with record 454 infections, plus 3 deaths
Dallas County passed 17,000 coronavirus cases after reporting a single-day high 454 new coronavirus cases and three deaths on Monday.
The latest deaths included a Dallas man in his 30s who was found dead at his home, a Dallas man in his 40s who had been hospitalized, and an Irving man in his 60s who had been hospitalized. All three had underlying health issues.
Dallas County has confirmed 17,299 COVID-19 cases, including 317 deaths.
Health officials report that almost half of all new cases in June have been in people between 18 and 39 years old.
Hospitalizations for COVID-19 have increased by 54% in June, a rate that has health officials concerned.
The county’s face covering order, which goes into effect officially on Wednesday, requires businesses to enforce face coverings for all staff and patrons or face a $500 fine. Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins urged residents to include masks on children 3 or older, per the CDC’s recommendations. The order only requires children 10 or older to wear a mask.
