Dallas County has 408 new coronavirus cases, 1 death as officials warn of second wave

Dallas County reported one new confirmed coronavirus death and 408 new infections Sunday in what the county is calling a second wave.

A Dallas woman in her 60s died at an area hospital. She had underlying health conditions, according to a news release from the county.

This brings the total number of confirmed cases in Dallas County to 16,845 and the total deaths to 314.

The county publishes a color-coded risk level every day. It has been at red, “Stay home, stay safe,” for weeks.

More than 80% of people who provided employment information upon hospitalization held jobs in critical infrastructure. according to the release. More than two-thirds of those hospitalized were older than 65.

Around 66% of confirmed cases in Dallas County have been among Hispanics. Hispanics make up about 40% of the population, according to the latest U.S. Census Bureau data. Asians had the second highest number of infections in the county at about 18%.

Diabetes has been confirmed as one of the underlying conditions with the highest risk, according to the release.
