Dallas County’s June coronavirus spike includes near half of all infections in ages 18 to 39

Dallas County’s coronavirus surge continued in the month of June with 395 new cases and two deaths reported on Saturday.

It’s the second-most single-day total of new cases and fourth consecutive day the county has reported 392 or more cases.

The county has reported 300 or more COVID-19 cases the past 11 days and 200 more cases every day since May 28.

Dallas County has confirmed 16,437 COVID-19 cases, including 313 deaths.

The latest deaths include two Dallas men in their 60s, one living in a long-term care facility and one who did not have underlying health conditions.

Health officials report an increased number of adults aged 18 to 39 being diagnosed with COVID-19. Almost half of all the cases reported since June 1 have been in this age group.

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins applauded businesses complying with Friday’s order requiring all businesses in the county to enforce face coverings among employees and patrons.

“Today we saw many stores putting up signs asking customers to wear a mask and we’ve seen a big improvement on compliance since the Court passed an order requiring masks,” Jenkins said in a release while thanking the commissioners who approved the measure by a 3-2 vote for “this important initiative that will save countless lives.”
