Dallas County coronavirus cases continue sharp trend up with single-day record, 10 deaths

Dallas County’s sharp increase of new coronavirus cases hit another single-day high on Friday.

The county reported 298 new COVID-19 cases and 10 more deaths. The previous high for new cases was 285 on Thursday.

It’s the ninth consecutive day the county has reported 200 or more COVID-19 cases. Dallas County has confirmed a total of 11,541 cases, including 260 deaths.

The latest deaths include seven Dallas residents, two Irving residents and one Carrollton resident.

The 10 latest deaths include a woman in her 20s with underlying health conditions, one woman in her 60s, two men in their 70s, two men in their 80s, two women and a man in their 90s, and a woman in her 100s. Six were residents of long-term care facilities.

Although new cases and deaths have been rising this week, other important data that health officials use to determine the threat level to the public has remained flat, Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said.

“The hospitalizations, ICU admission for COVID-19 and ER visits for COVID-19 still remain flat,” Jenkins said in a release and on social media.

“It’s more important than ever that you avoid large crowds and keep six feet apart when you are outside your home,” Jenkins said. “Please wear cloth face coverings when on public transportation and in businesses as evidence is increasingly accumulating that this protects you and the people that you come into contact with. Even if you feel invincible, some of the people who are in locations outside your home with you may have high-risk conditions.”
