Two Dallas County men die of coronavirus as 72 new cases of the illness are reported

Two more Dallas County residents died of the novel coronavirus and 72 people tested positive for the illness in the last day, authorities said Saturday.

There were 439 cases in Dallas County on Saturday, according to Dallas County Health and Human Services.

The eighth and ninth deaths in the county involved a man in his 50s who lived in DeSoto and a man in his 70s who was a resident of Dallas. The DeSoto man did not have chronic high-risk medical conditions, the health agency said.

Hospitalizations from COVID-19 have been increasing in Dallas County, and 36% of all hospitalized patients have required admission to intensive care units.

Of cases requiring hospitalization, about two-thirds have been either people over 60 or had at least one known high-risk chronic health condition.
