A Dallas police officer has tested positive for the coronavirus, the first known case among officers in North Texas.

Dallas police confirmed the officer, who works in Northeast Patrol, has been self-quarantined and is doing well.

Three coworkers who met the definition of close contact have been isolated as a precaution.

The Northeast Patrol office is being sanitized for the “well-being for all officers currently utilizing that space.”

The department is hoping to mitigate the spread of the virus with 3,200 bottles of hand sanitizer, 6,000 boxes of gloves and increased cleaning and sanitizing of all common areas at facilities, including main entrances, elevators and restrooms.
