TCU extends online classes through the end of the semester over coronavirus concerns
TCU students will finish their semester through online classes because of coronavirus concerns, officials announced Thursday afternoon.
College officials initially extended spring break through March 20 and had planned to have classes online through April 3.
But the growing number of coronavirus cases prompted officials to extend the period of online learning.
“The uncertainty of the spread and duration of COVID-19 in our area means that we must chart a responsible path forward for you, your parents, our faculty and staff, and our full community,” Chancellor Victor Boschini Jr. wrote in an email to students.
“You’ll soon start receiving activities and news from Student Affairs to keep you connected during our time apart,” he wrote. “It would be difficult to replicate the singular experience that the TCU campus offers, but we are going to do everything we can to maintain our purple connections. We will be together in spirit, if not in person.”
Boschini said no decision has been made about graduation ceremonies.
“We remain hopeful that we are able to celebrate commencement for those seniors who have given us so much joy during their time with us at TCU,” he wrote.
TCU’s announcement came shortly after Tarrant County health officials confirmed 10 more COVID-19 cases on Thursday, bringing the total to 19.
Cases have been reported in Fort Worth, Arlington, Southlake, Colleyville, Mansfield, North Richland Hills, Watauga, Benbrook and White Settlement.
TCU community members are asked to check their campus email and tcu.edu/coronavirus for the latest campus updates and information.
