Collin County man who died Tuesday had coronavirus; confirmed cases rise to 13

A 64-year-old Plano man who died in a Collin County hospital Tuesday night from an underlying medical condition was infected with the COVID-19 virus, according to officials.

Health officials have not yet been able to confirm the cause of the man’s death, “nor do they know if the man had come in contact with the virus locally or through travel,” according to a release.

The positive test was confirmed after his death and is in addition to 13 confirmed cases of coronavirus currently being monitored by Collin County public health officials. The county is currently monitoring 66 people for potential infection.

County health officials say two of the recent positive tests include a 38-year-old Plano man and a 54-year-old Anna man. Neither has underlying health conditions and they are in self-quarantine. The two cases are unrelated.

Earlier Wednesday, officials announced a 39-year-old McKinney man with no underlying medical conditions tested positive, and a 32-year-old Plano woman with no underlying health conditions tested positive. Both are self-quarantined in their homes.

An Arlington man who died Sunday was the Dallas-Fort Worth area’s first death related to the coronavirus, officials and his family have said.
