Patient in Tarrant County’s fourth COVID-19 case is a close contact of American pilot
Tarrant County’s fourth COVID-19 case involves a patient who is a close contact of an American Airlines pilot who tested positive for the novel coronavirus earlier in the week.
No one at DFW Airport came in contact with the fourth patient since symptoms developed, Tarrant County Public Health Director Vinny Taneja said Saturday night.
The patient in the fourth Tarrant coronavirus case was isolated at home and then developed symptoms. The person is a resident of Tarrant County. The sample was tested at a private lab.
The pilot was determined to be an out-of-state resident, Taneja said. American Airlines has said the pilot is based in Dallas-Fort Worth.
The Tarrant health department has declined to release the age range, gender or condition of the patients involved in the coronavirus cases it describes.
Starting Saturday, cases detected at public health labs that use Centers for Disease Control and Prevention procedure are considered a confirmed positive.
COVID-19 causes respiratory illness with cough, fever, and shortness of breath, and may lead to bronchitis and severe pneumonia.
