Construction on this stretch of I-35W in north Tarrant County is more than halfway done

Construction on Interstate 35W between North Tarrant Parkway and Eagle Parkway has officially crossed the half-way mark.

The project, from public-private partnership North Tarrant Express Mobility Partners, is improving existing toll-free lanes and building two toll managed lanes in each direction. North Tarrant Infrastructure is the general contractor on the project.

“This latest project on 35W is on track and will produce extra capacity and congestion relief north into Denton County by late 2023,” said Francisco Galdeano, COO of North Tarrant Express Mobility Partners Segment 3.

The 7.2-mile segment of I-35W under construction is a critical north/south thoroughfare for local commuters and trade traffic.

In fact, it includes the second-most congested roadway in Tarrant County — the 4.4-mile stretch of I-35W between Texas 170 and U.S. 287. In 2020, traffic on this roadway reached an average speed of 29 mph between 5:30 p.m. and 5:45 p.m., according to the Texas A&M Transportation Institute.

Construction on the segment began in spring 2020 and will be completed by 2023.
