Updates on retailers coming to Montgomery Plaza: Barnes & Noble, Ulta, Wonder

Construction has officially begun for the Barnes & Noble store going into Montgomery Plaza.

The bookstore is going into the previous Office Depot space at 401 Carroll St. Construction began on July 6 and is expected to wrap up by the end of October.

The $508,000 renovations include updates to the 20,000-square-foot interior and the addition of a cafe, which is an amenity not all Barnes & Noble stores have.

The opening of this store is a part of a grander company plan to open 60 stores in 2026. In 2025, seven new Barnes & Noble stores opened in Texas – two of them being in Abilene and Burleson.

Fort Worth only has one other currently open Barnes & Noble location, off Hulen Street. However, in addition to this Montgomery Plaza store, the company also plans to open a third Fort Worth store in Presidio Town Crossing. This north Fort Worth location began construction in June and is expected to wrap up by the end of November.

Despite the modern wave of Kindles, e-books and audiobooks, Barnes & Noble’s business is rising with an upward trend. The company told USA Today they opened more stores in 2024 than they did during the decade from 2009 to 2019.
