A new ice cream store that serves alcohol may be coming to Sundance Square
Sundance Square management may be opening up an ice cream store in one of its empty storefronts on the south side of plaza.
Lalo’s Ice Cream shop filed a permit with the city of Fort Worth and the Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission for a location at 106 E. 4th St. in downtown.
The space was previously occupied by Schakolad Chocolate Shop until it closed in 2020.
The TABC permit states the ice cream shop will serve mixed beverages, although it’s not clear if the shop will serve as a bar or just offer alcoholic beverages along with the ice cream.
Representatives for Sundance Square Management did not immediately respond to an email and text message from the Star-Telegram requesting comment.
Lalo’s opening would be the first ice cream store in Sundance Square since Melt Ice Cream moved out in September 2024 to its current downtown location at 700 Main St.
Sundance Square has struggled to keep tenants that occupied spaces prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the company has tried to stem the tide by filling its empty storefronts with art galleries and small businesses — some supported by a Sundance Square small business program and others managed by Sundance directly.
It’s not clear whether this business will be an independent operator or be run directly by Sundance Square Management.
