FedEx in Fort Worth plans to lay off hundreds of workers this summer

FedEx will be laying off 305 employees at its Fort Worth facility starting in early July, according to a notice filed with the state.

Employees at the company’s facility at 13500 Independence Parkway in far north Fort Worth will be impacted by the layoff, which is set to begin July 6. Roughly 52% of the facility’s 580 workers at the site will lose their current jobs, WFAA reported.

The facility along U.S. 377 near Texas 170 is in the AllianceTexas development, a hub for logistics operations and distribution centers in north Fort Worth.

FedEx said the layoff is due to one of its customers on Independence Parkway moving to a new logistics provider in another location. The transition is expected to be done by October 2025.

Employees may be offered new roles at FedEx, the company said.

“We are committed to supporting affected employees — through job placement assistance, relocation aid, or severance, as applicable, including at other nearby FedEx facilities in the area,” a company spokeswoman said.

The company said the layoff is not related to its Network 2.0 strategy, FedEx’s effort to improve efficiency.

FedEx has been a major employer in Tarrant County for decades. In 1994, the company broke ground on a $300 million sorting hub at the Alliance airport, one of the early large industrial clients to move into Ross Perot Jr.’s burgeoning development.
