What’s this major development planned for the former Fort Worth school district building?

The details are sketchy, but an investment group is planning to turn the former Fort Worth school district headquarters into a 35-acre mixed use development.

Developer FW Westside RE Investors, a partnership between a pair of Metroplex investment groups, wants to transform the property on the corner of North University Drive and White Settlement Road into a vibrant commercial corridor.

The land is zoned for industrial uses like warehousing, animal hospitals and batch plants, but the developers are looking to add retail, restaurants, entertainment, office space, residences and green space, according to a press release. The group will submit conceptual plans and a rezoning application to the city of Fort Worth in early 2024.

“This development will result in an iconic asset that we hope will serve as the premier destination for area residents and visitors alike,” said Carl Anderson, president of Dallas-based developer Larkspur Capital LP, one of the partners on the project.

The project’s design will pull from the rich heritage, culture, and deep architectural context that Fort Worth embodies,” Anderson said.

The press release promised additional details in the coming months.
