This longtime business in Fort Worth Stockyards wants to make big changes to storefront
Rios Interiors, a staple of hacienda and ranch style furniture in the Fort Worth Stockyards, may be doing some redecorating of its own.
The company, located at 2465 N. Main St. across from Cattlemen’s Steak House, filed an permit request with Fort Worth’s historic and cultural landmarks commission to make changes to its facade and some of its existing storefront.
The application calls for removing the wooden porch extending over the sidewalk, and installing new display windows on the second floor. It also calls for adding a second entryway which could be used for a proposed gift shop, according to the application.
“The plan is to create a modern and inviting storefront that will attract new customers and enhance the overall shopping experience for existing clients,“ said Weston Hiegel, a marketing specialist with Rios, in an email to the Star-Telegram.
The interior design industry is rapidly changing, and this renovation will help Rios stay ahead of the curve, he said.
The existing brick on the second floor would be covered with stucco, and all wood finishes would be removed from the first floor. The building was constructed in 1934, according to tax records.
Rios is required to get special permission from the city’s landmarks commission because of its location in the Stockyards. The city set up a “form based code” in 2017, which lays out rules for what buildings in the Stockyards can look like and what businesses can set up shop.
The earliest the city commission could evaluate Rios’ application would be at its Jan. 9 meeting.
Natividad Rios started Rios Interiors at the Dallas Farmers Market in 1999, according to the company’s website, and then expanded into the Stockyards building.
The company specializes in customized handmade furniture for residential and commercial clients, including the Hotel Drover in the Stockyards.
