Not one, but two H-E-B locations now planned for Denton
H-E-B has announced plans for a second location in Denton.
H-E-B expects to begin construction on a 119,000 square-foot store at 2210 W. University Drive in spring 2026, the company told the Denton Record-Chronicle on Tuesday. H-E-B has owned the almost 12-acre property since 2015.
The grocer announced plans to build its initial Denton store at the intersection of I-35W and Robson Ranch Road in March. Ground has yet to break, and it’s unclear when it might open.
Tuesday’s announcement means Denton will join Frisco as one of the only Metroplex communities home to two H-E-B stores. The company has two Joe V’s Smart Shop locations in Dallas, though they typically have a smaller footprint than a traditional H-E-B.
H-E-B has opened eight stores in the Metroplex since 2022. The explosive growth shows no signs of slowing down; an additional four stores are under construction across North Texas.
A new H-E-B in Prosper is slated to open at 6 a.m. Aug. 13, the company’s managing director of public affairs Mabrie Jackson announced in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
Work on Fort Worth’s second H-E-B, at the corner of FM 3325 and I-20 Service Road in Parker County, is expected to begin in October. The company opened a store about six miles west in Hudson Oaks in 2019. Fort Worth’s first H-E-B opened in Alliance in spring 2024.
It’s not uncommon for H-E-B to purchase land and wait for years to build a store. The grocer recently purchased 19.8 acres in Sherman, though it does not yet have plans to build on the site. The company bought about 15 acres at The Shops at Chisholm Trail Ranch in early 2023, though no plans for a store there have been announced
One of the largest private companies in the country, H-E-B has over 455 stores across Texas and Mexico. The company’s sales were over $46 billion in 2024.
